WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. home prices jumped 12.2 percent in May from a year ago, the most in seven years. Real estate data provider CoreLogic says Oregon home prices rose 15.5 percent, the fifth-highest rate in the nation. Prices rose 26 percent in Nevada to lead all states. The increase suggests the housing recovery is strengthening.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man accused of shooting a Portland convenience store clerk 33 years ago will be retried because of a hung jury. The Multnomah County jury couldn’t agree yesterday on a verdict and was sent home by the judge. The Oregonian reports a crime lab linked DNA on a mask to Antonio Wabol. He was charged in the 1980 shooting of Portland State University student Myong Su Cho.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state has issued a health advisory for Harris Beach in Curry County. Tests showed higher-than-normal levels of bacteria at the east end of Goat Island. Storm water runoff and animal waste from birds such as sea gulls and even pets can cause high fecal levels in ocean water. Health officials recommend visitors avoid wading in nearby creeks or in discolored water and staying away from runoff.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A heat wave reaching a peak early this week in Oregon appears to have killed as many as 40 sheep in Marion County. Authorities say circling buzzards led neighbors to discover dead sheep in a field near Turner. The National Weather Service says yesterday’s high at the Portland International Airport hit 91 with Medford in southern Oregon reaching 101. In eastern Oregon, the Weather Service says Ontario’s high was 110.
