ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard says a man rescued from a sinking fishing boat near the mouth of the Columbia River is suspected of being drunk, and he faces a charge of boating under the influence. The man reported his 36-foot boat was taking on water late Saturday night about 25 miles west of Ilwaco. A Coast Guard helicopter from Astoria put a rescue swimmer in the water who helped the man into a rescue basket. The man was flown to Ilwaco. He refused to submit to an alcohol breath test.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The AAA auto club reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Oregon is $3.85. That’s up 10 cents in a week, and it’s 24 cents higher than the national average. Some metro prices from the AAA’s survey: Portland $3.83, Salem $3.83, Eugene-Springfield $3.88, and Medford-Ashland $3.86.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature has allocated $10 million for work on the Coos Bay rail line, the link between the coast and the Willamette Valley that fell into disrepair years ago. The Port of Coos Bay bought the line in 2009 after the previous owner – an investment firm – terminated service. The port has spent nearly $31 million to rehabilitate the neglected line.

TUALATIN, Ore. (AP) – Mourners paid their last respects an Oregon native who was among 19 elite firefighters killed while battling an Arizona wildfire last month. Hundreds of firefighters from across Oregon attended Saturday’s public memorial at a Tualatin church for 24-year-old John Percin Jr.. He died June 30 when a wind-driven blaze overran the hotshot crew as it tried to protect a small town. Percin graduated from West Linn High School. He moved to Arizona in 2010.
