PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber’s top adviser on the failed Columbia River Crossing project is under investigation. The Oregon Government Ethics Commission decided Friday to formally investigate accusations that Patricia McCaig did not register as a lobbyist as required and was working for the governor and the prime consultant on the project. McCaig has denied the allegations.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A federal appeals court has overturned the marijuana and weapons convictions of an Oregon man who had his Miranda rights improperly translated into Spanish. The 9th U.S. District Court of Appeals ruled yesterday a judge improperly refused to suppress statements Jeronimo Botello-Rosales gave to Yamhill County sheriff’s detectives. According to court records, a detective flubbed part of the warning.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland firefighter has been hospitalized after he was shocked by a 240-volt power line in the ceiling of a burning southwest Portland home and then hit in the head by falling debris. A Portland Fire Bureau spokesman said the unidentified firefighter was conscious and alert yesterday evening. The Oregonian reports the fire destroyed the home’s attic.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a 70-year-old employee at Portland Outdoor Store is recovering after being bashed over the head with a skateboard. Police say the man was assaulted yesterday afternoon as he hosed off the sidewalk outside the store. Co-worker Miguel Figueroa told The Oregonian that Larry Allen had cuts on his arms and a gash above his right eye after asking some “street kids” to move.
