PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former doctor has pleaded no contest in Portland to criminally negligent homicide in the 2010 death of an employee on whom she was preparing to perform a tummy tuck. A Multnomah County Judge said yesterday that Soraya Abbassian will not serve prison time unless she violates her expected three-year probation. The Oregonian reports she’s charged with manslaughter in the death of Judith Ann DesMarets.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 46-year-old man faces at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal stabbing in Cottage Grove. Willie Lee Beaty had been charged with murder but was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge yesterday in Eugene in a deal with Lane County prosecutors. The Register-Guard reports Beaty admitted he stabbed Samuel Scooter Hunter on Feb. 22 at a mobile home park.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A former Oregon high school teacher accused of punching a 17-year-old boy in a road rage incident has pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and related charges. Bruce Clevenger of Aloha was sentenced yesterday to probation and 100 hours of community service. The Oregonian reports prosecutors say Clevenger yanked the teen’s door open, pulled him out of the car and began punching him in the face.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland have successfully talked a suicidal woman off a city bridge after nearly six hours of negotiations. Related highway closures caused major traffic jams yesterday. Police began temporary closures of the St. Johns Bridge and U.S. Highway 30 beneath the bridge after the incident started about 3 p.m.
