Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has met with House and Senate leaders in an attempt to reach an agreement on tax increases and public-employee pension cuts. The daylong meeting at Mahonia Hall, the governor’s official residence, did not produce a deal, but Republicans and Democrats both sounded an optimistic tune. A spokesman for Kitzhaber said it was a “very productive conversation,” and the group is scheduled to continue talking today. A special session could be held Sept. 30.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Union leaders representing staff workers at Oregon’s public universities say there’s been progress in contract talks, so they’re pushing back a strike deadline. The 4,500 workers such as cooks, custodians and nurses had been looking at a strike as soon as Sept. 23. But yesterday, union bargainer Marc Nisenfeld told the Eugene Register-Guard that will be delayed a week to Sept. 30 – the day fall classes are set to start. Wages are the sticking point in the negotiations.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says one person is dead after a private logging helicopter crashed yesterday afternoon in a remote area east of Salem. KATU-TV reports the sheriff was not sure how many people were on the helicopter. The sheriff says the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Multnomah County judge has denied a request by Terri Horman’s divorce attorneys to interview the lead investigator in the disappearance of her stepson. Judge Henry Kantor ruled yesterday that Oregon law makes clear that many aspects of an ongoing investigation are highly privileged and confidential. Terri Horman’s lawyers said they should be privy to same to the information her husband has been given about the investigation. Kyron Horman was 7 when he disappeared in 2010.
