RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Given a primetime stage, the Seattle Seahawks again excelled, getting the upper hand in the NFC West. What’s scary for the rest of their division is just how many key players the Seahawks expected to be significant contributors were watching from the sideline on Sunday night when Seattle routed San Francisco 29-3. Seattle has outscored the 49ers 71-16 in the past two meetings – and is in position to hold an advantage on its division rivals until they meet again in December.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – A Davenport football player is expected to recover fully from a skull fracture suffered in a Friday night game. A medical airlift helicopter landed on the field to fly 17-year-old Max Mielke to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. His mother tells KXLY there was bleeding in his head that stopped a few hours later. She says he’ll never play football again.
DETROIT (AP) – Rick Porcello struck out 10 in six impressive innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 last night to move a step closer to their third straight AL Central title. Victor Martinez broke a 1-all tie in the sixth with a run-scoring single, and Omar Infante followed with his own RBI single. Porcello allowed a run and five hits with two walks.
DETROIT (AP) – Felix Hernandez is not ready to return to Seattle’s starting rotation. Hernandez, who has been bothered by an oblique strain, threw a bullpen session yesterday in Detroit, but the Mariners say Hisashi Iwakuma will start against the Tigers tomorrow night, followed by James Paxton on Thursday. Erasmo Ramirez is slated to start against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Hernandez is expected to throw another bullpen session Thursday.
