Local Preps win on gridiron; Beaver Defense Shows up in nick of time

Prep Football

Joe Dotson carried the ball 12 times, scored three touchdowns, and the Siuslaw Vikings improved to 2-and-oh in the Far West League with a 56-12 walloping of the Sutherlin Bulldogs Friday night.  Sam Johnson had 105 all purpose yards with three catches, one carry, a kickoff return and a punt return.

Elsewhere in the Far West, North Bend beat South Umpqua 51-21; Marshfield beat Brookings-Harbor 22-6.  Douglas edged Hidden Valley 20-12 for a nonleague win.

Mapleton picked up a win in their first Mountain West League matchup of the season; downing Crow 52-36.  In the 2A ranks, Reedsport downed North Douglas 30-16.

On the Cross Country Course…

Celie Mans was fourth overall, pacing the Siuslaw Girls to a 3rd place team finish at Saturday’s Northwest Classic at Lane Community College.  Seth Campbell was seventh in the boys’ race.  Siuslaw was eighth overall.  Mack Marbas and Mitchell Butler ran in the higher 5A and 6A division where they finished fifth and sixth individually.

College Football

Oregon State’s running game never showed up Saturday evening, but Sean Mannion completed 38 of 55 passes for 367 yards.  The defense got there in time for a pair of interceptions late in the game… one of which resulted in the go-ahead score and the Beavers beat the San Diego State Aztecs 34-30.

The Beavers kick off against Colorado Saturday, Noon in Corvallis.

Oregon had the weekend off… they remain #2 in the national rankings.  The Ducks will host Cal Saturday night.

Prep Schedule

Just one prep contest on the schedule for tonight… the Siuslaw Volleyball team will host Reedsport for a non-league match beginning at six.
