PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Lightning struck a Spokane-bound Alaska Airlines flight last night, soon after leaving Portland International Airport. Airline spokeswoman Nancy Trott told The Oregonian the turboprop continued to function normally but returned to Portland as a precaution. Passengers and crew got on another plane and left for Spokane about an hour later.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Grocery shoppers in Salem have been finding $100 dollar bills hidden inside egg cartons, behind bottles of formula, by the loaves of bread. The manager of a Fred Meyer store in South Salem tells the Statesman Journal that seven customers have reported finding $100 bills in or near various types of groceries in recent weeks. Store employees aren’t sure who is leaving the money behind.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge in Eugene has sentenced a man to 12 years in prison following his second conviction for possession of child pornography. The U.S. Attorney says Christopher Sparks was sentenced in 2007 to more than four years in federal prison. He was caught with child porn earlier this year while on supervised release and pleaded guilty in June.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon State Bar has dropped ethics charges against Washington County District Attorney Bob Hermann and defense lawyer Robert Axford. They were accused of pushing to confine a mental ill murder suspect without legal basis.
