MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police says a commercial truck struck a pedestrian on Interstate 5 last night about five miles south of Medford. The man died about an hour later at a hospital. One northbound lane of the interstate was blocked for the investigation.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature continues deliberations today on a combination of changes to taxes, pensions and agricultural regulations. A special session got off to a slow start yesterday as Gov. John Kitzhaber and legislative leaders tried to hold together a flimsy agreement. Senior lawmakers say they’re optimistic they can finish the session on today.
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – About 100 people attended a presentation last night in Vancouver on plans to build an oil-by-rail terminal at the Port of Vancouver. The Tesoro Corp. and Savage Companies want to build a $110 million terminal that would handle as much as 380,000 barrels of crude oil a day. The oil would arrive by train from North Dakota and be shipped to U.S. refineries.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a Coos Bay woman found naked and “passed out” on the living room floor of her former home was arrested and provided with some clothes. Coos County deputies found 51-year-old Lesli Diane Thomas early Sunday after receiving a call from a work crew that had gone to the home to clean it. The sheriff’s office says Thomas was intoxicated. She’s accused of smashing a window to get inside. She was jailed for investigation of criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
