NEW YORK (AP) – A homeless man from Oregon who went on an anti-Semitic tirade in New York City’s Times Square while dressed as Elmo was sentenced to a year in prison in a plot to extort $2 million from the Girl Scouts. Prosecutors say Dan Sandler was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to attempted grand larceny and misdemeanor stalking as part of a deal with prosecutors. The Ashland man was accused of sending harassing emails and photos to a Girl Scouts employee.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man has been fatally shot more than two decades after he killed his foster parents in a high-profile double murder. The Ontario Police Department says the body of 34-year-old Jacob Allen Colman was found in his apartment Tuesday and no arrests have been made. Authorities say a 12-year-old Colman killed Pete and Janet Read in 1992.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – Douglas County authorities arrested a retired policeman accused of having child pornography in his home. Leland Benson was booked into the county jail on suspicion of encouraging child sex abuse after a search of his home Tuesday. The Roseburg News-Review reports investigators searched computers and other electronic devices.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – Seven states, including Oregon, are suing the Environmental Protection Agency over health-damaging air pollution from outdoor wood-fired boilers that have become popular for residential heating. The lawsuit filed yesterday asks a federal court to order the EPA to review and adopt updated emissions limits for the boilers. An EPA spokeswoman says the agency is reviewing the lawsuit.
