Predatory Sex Offender May be In Florence Area

Law enforcement officials say a convicted predatory sex offender wanted for failing to check in with his parole officer may be in the Florence area.

Police are seeking 5′ 6″, 145 lb, Jeramy Adam Ball, a 36 year old convicted predatory sex offender who may be in the Florence area.

36-year old Jeramy Adam Ball has several sex offense convictions ranging from his most recent… a forcible rape of a 46-year old woman… to public indecency and sexual misconduct while incarcerated.

Parole and Probation Officer Kim Menjou said it’s not believed Ball has committed any recent offenses, but due to his history they are actively seeking him.  He is described as being 5-foot-6-inches, 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Ball is under court order to have no contact with minors under the age of 18 and is barred from locations where children are likely to congregate.

Anyone who knows of Ball’s whereabouts is asked to call Menjou at 541-682-3040.

Friday Hit and Run

A Florence man is facing several charges after a hit and run crash near Siuslaw Middle School Friday evening.  Florence Police say a vehicle operated by 21-year old Gregory M. Denton rear ended another vehicle at 27th and Oak at about 7:30 PM.

Police say Denton immediately fled on foot, but was found hiding in the brush a few blocks away by officers.

Florence Police Lieutenant Jon Pitcher said Denton and the other driver suffered only minor injuries.

Denton was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, assault, reckless driving and endangering and driving under the influence… as well as hit and run.

Senior Companions Sought

The Lane County Senior Companion Program is seeking some volunteers with benefits.

Senior Companion Program volunteers help frail elders and adults with disabilities to remain independent by visiting them weekly; providing transportation; and just being with them. The intention is to help people who want to stay in their homes as long as possible.

Qualifying volunteers must be age 55 or older and meet low income guidelines.  A background and physical check is required as well, but volunteers are reimbursed for meals and mileage as well as receive a small hourly stipend.

Information is available at the Lane Community College website under Senior Companion Program.

Great Oregon Shakeout

Already more than 200-thousand Oregonians have registered to participate in the Great Oregon Shakeout.  It’s an earthquake preparedness drill set to begin at 10:17 Thursday morning.

That’s when an estimated 19-million people world wide will participate in the largest “drop, cover, and hold” drill in history.

Dave Stuckey is the director of Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management.  He says geologists say a major earthquake will strike our state sometime in the future and it’s critical that Oregonians know what to do.

Stuckey says registration is simple… just go to the organization’s website to sign up… and then drop, cover and hold at 10:17 Thursday morning.
