MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A missing motorcyclist has been found dead in southwestern Oregon. Lane County sheriff’s deputies found James Lutter yesterday, pinned under his motorcycle down a 12-foot embankment off a remote Forest Service road. Lutter was due home in Phoenix, Ore., near Medford, on Thursday after a planned ride.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials are only months away from accepting applications for the state’s first medical marijuana dispensaries, but local leaders who want to keep pot shops out of their communities are readying for a fight. Officials in Myrtle Creek say they oppose any dispensaries. The Medford City Council has enacted a rule that business licenses can be revoked for violating federal prohibition of marijuana.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Thousands of fish are dead after state water officials dropped the level of the Deschutes River southwest of Bend. KTVZ-TV and The Bulletin newspaper reported yesterday trout, sculpin and whitefish were discovered earlier this month in a dried-up channel of the river. The Oregon Water Resources Department has been trying to increase the water supply in the Wickiup Reservoir.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon’s clogged and clunky wireless system is a shock to many students. The predicament began in the fall of 2011, when the demand for Wi-Fi connections on campus began outstripping the bandwidth the UO provides. The Eugene Register-Guard reported yesterday the shortage of capacity is a potential multimillion dollar problem. The system has failed to keep up as the student population has soared by 40 percent since 2000.
