FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A 6-year-old girl was killed and her 10-year-old sister seriously injured when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver while playing in leaves at the curb near their home in Forest Grove. Police say the 6-year-old died at the scene and her sister is hospitalized with life threatening injuries after the mishap last night. Police say it’s possible the driver didn’t realize the children were in the leaves that were piled in a greenway and partially into the street.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Police say an elderly woman crossing an intersection on Highway 99W in McMinnville was struck and killed by a vehicle yesterday afternoon. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

REEDSPORT, Ore. (AP) – Police say one man stabbed another to death in a fight Saturday evening outside an apartment complex in Reedsport. Officers and Douglas County deputies responding to the fight found the dead man. Detectives arrested a 24-year-old suspect.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a cell phone helped in rescuing a Springfield driver who was trapped in his overturned car off Highway 126E in Lane County. The 19-year-old didn’t know his location early yesterday, but 911 operators determined an approximate area from the cell phone signal and a fire department rescue crew found the car in a ditch. The driver was cited for DUI and reckless driving.
