PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The executive director of the Oregon State Athletic Commission has returned to work after spending 16 months on paid leave during an investigation into why he had $22,000 in cash and checks lying around in his office. Investigators found no evidence Brad Darcy was embezzling money from the division of the State Police that regulates boxing and mixed martial arts. They also determined that Darcy was not taking bribes from fighters and promoters.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of three people shot at a home outside Roseburg. The man believed responsible is still being sought. The Douglas County sheriff’s office said yesterday that the dead are 24-year-old Brittney Langford and her father, 47-year-old Michael Tellone. Her husband, 26-year-old Christopher Langford, was wounded.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A multi-agency surveillance team led investigators to find a Portland man accused of aiming a laser pointer at two commercial airliners. Court papers unsealed yesterday show the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Portland police and other agencies conducted a four-plane video surveillance in August in a Portland neighborhood where previous laser incidents had originated. After FBI planes were targeted by green lasers, investigators tracked down the laser beam to the apartment of Stephen Francis Bukucs (BOO’-kuhs). They say Bukucs pointed a laser at airplanes multiple times.

BEND, Ore. (AP) — State biologists are blaming a combination of unusual conditions for the deaths of about 3,000 fish last week in a side channel of the Deschutes River upstream of Bend. Among the dead fish were redband rainbow trout, a species the state lists as sensitive. Among the conditions the biologists cite are heavy water years in 2011 and 2012. They say that meant the side channel didn’t completely dry up this year and there were more fish in it than usual.
