PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Larry Niswender is set to retire at the end of the month as director of the Oregon Lottery, but he could stick around for six months as an adviser to his replacement. The Oregonian reports he’s asking the governor’s office for an appointment that would continue his salary for a total of more than $85,000. Gov. John Kitzhaber has picked Jack Roberts to replace Niswender.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Voters in southern Oregon’s Curry County are rejecting a property tax increase and their decisions could eventually test a new public safety emergency funding law. Early results last night showed 58 percent voting no and 42 percent voting yes.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say a pedestrian who was hit by a MAX light rail train last night suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The accident in southwest Portland also disrupted some light rail traffic.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – James Harden scored 33 points and the Houston Rockets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 116-101 last night. Damian Lillard scored 22 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 21 to lead the Blazers, who fell after winning two in a row. Wesley Matthews added 19 points.
