CHENEY, Wash. (AP) – Venky Jois put up 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Eastern Washington to a season opening win against Pacific (Ore.) yesterday. Jois, last year’s Big Sky Freshman of the Year, went 10 of 13 from the field and also added five assists. All five Eastern Washington starters finished in double figures.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Rookie goalie Frederik Andersen won for the sixth time in as many NHL games, making 35 saves in place of ailing Jonas Hiller, and the league-leading Anaheim Ducks extended their winning streak to five with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks last night. The Ducks are the league’s only undefeated team on home ice.

SANDY, Utah (AP) – Robbie Findley scored a go-ahead goal in the first half and had an assist in the second half, leading Real Salt Lake to a 4-2 victory over the Portland Timbers in the first leg of the Western Conference finals last night. Salt Lake extended its unbeaten streak over Portland to nine games. The Timbers have not beaten RSL since the 1st meeting in the series on April 30, 2011.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Sterling Smith had a career-high 21 points and Coppin State defeated Oregon State 78-73 yesterday for the Eagles’ first-ever victory over a Pac-12 school. The Eagles, who led by as many as 13 points, went into the game 0-16 against Pac-12 teams.
