Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A tentative contract for Portland police would protect officers who take sports supplements tainted with steroids. Under current policy, officers who test positive for banned drugs face suspension or having their powers restricted. The Oregonian reports officers would not face repercussions for steroids under the tentative four-year contract.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland State University’s Population Research Center estimates Oregon’s population increased by about 1 percent in the past year. The center says the increase is slightly higher than last year’s. Most of the population growth is in seven counties: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Marion, Deschutes, Lane and Jackson.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Some bicyclists at a public meeting in Eugene said they could share the streets with skateboards, if the boarders obey traffic laws. But a motorist at yesterday’s meeting said skateboards are inappropriate for streets because of poor steering and lack of brakes. City officials will decide whether to take the ideas to the city council.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Officials plan to kill a seagull that has been making a pest of itself at an office building in Salem. The Statesman Journal reports the gull repeatedly pecks at the front door window, tears at the welcome mat and lands on parked cars. Dave Williams with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services Department says a worker will capture and euthanize the gull.
