MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A former partner in a Super 8 motel franchise has pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and filing a false tax return. The Oregon Department of Justice says 62-year-old Kenneth Johnson ran the Central Point motel’s daily operations from 2005 until 2011 and provided false information to co-partners, with almost $500,000 diverted to personal use.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Under pressure from big-box competitors, the parent company of Ray’s Food Place groceries has filed for protection in federal bankruptcy court, saying it plans to reorganize and close or sell a third of its stores. The Medford Mail Tribune reports that C&K Market Inc., based in Brookings, is the region’s largest independent grocery chain. About 20 percent of the 2,500 employees are expected to lose their jobs.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Two of Gov. John Kitzhaber’s top advisers are moving on. Chief of Staff Curtis Robinhold will leave at year’s end to become deputy executive director at the Port of Portland. Communications Director Tim Raphael will become senior vice president in charge of Oregon operations at the Seattle-based lobbying firm Strategies 360. He leaves Dec. 1. Mike Bonetto (buh NEHT’ oh), the governor’s health care policy adviser, will replace Robinhold. No replacement has been named for Raphael or Bonetto.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Applications are being accepted to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Lincoln County District Attorney Rob Bovett. The DA recently announced he’ll resign Jan. 6 to take a job with the Association of Oregon Counties. Applications are due Dec. 9.
