COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – The Cottage Grove High School principal says students used lab equipment to create an explosive sound in the school cafeteria, sparking rumors that a pipe bomb had exploded. Cottage Grove police say there was no pipe bomb. KVAL-TV reports that the principal says two students are accused of taking a firing piston from a shop classroom without permission and setting it off in the cafeteria.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A recent increase in claims has drawn down the fund operated by the Oregon Bar Association to compensate clients who have been ripped off by their lawyer.
