PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Snow is falling on the Oregon coast and Willamette Valley. Combined with freezing temperatures, the snow has prompted many schools to close or delay opening. Some school buses are operating on snow routes. Forecasters also expect significant snow in central and northeast Oregon. The cold weather will last through the weekend and give way to to milder and wetter conditions by the middle of next week.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a Salem police detective driving south on I-5 near Albany with a federal investigator shot and wounded a driver that the two officers stopped for reckless driving. State police said late last night the wounded man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. A state police statement didn’t provide details on what prompted the detective to fire. The detective will be placed on leave.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A candlelight vigil will be held Wednesday evening at the Clackamas Town Center to mark the one-year anniversary of a shooting there. A man opened fire in the food court, killing two people and injuring a third before killing himself. The Oregonian reports members of the victims’ families will speak at the vigil.

HARBOR, Ore. (AP) – State Police say a man who crashed a car on U.S. 101 in southern Oregon ran from the wreck to a nearby trailer park where he climbed a power pole and suffered an electric shock that knocked him to the ground. Troopers say the 53-year-old Brookings man was flown to a Portland hospital for treatment. They say a preliminary investigation indicates drugs may be involved.
