Siuslaw Splits with Newport on the court
Most of the region’s prep basketball games scheduled for last night were cancelled because of slick road conditions. But a pair of games did play out here on the coast.
In Newport the Viking girls fell to the Newport Cubs 59-27.
For the boys in Florence, the Cubs jumped to an early lead but the Vikings played solid ball and forced several turnovers down the stretch for a 38-35 nonleague win. Joseph Dotson led all scoring with 23 points; 12 of those from outside the 3-point line. J.B. Dodson added seven.
