HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Police in Hillsboro say they arrested an on-call state caseworker for investigation of drunken driving while the woman reportedly was responding to an abuse incident to help officers on New Year’s Eve. The Oregonian reports police stopped a car in the parking lot of the Department of Human Services’ Hillsboro office after a caller reported a possibly impaired driver. Officers arrested 26-year-old Alysse Renee Carlson of Beaverton.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon prosecutor says a police officer in Hillsboro was justified in the fatal shooting of a man who authorities say fired at another officer during a traffic stop. The Oregonian reports that a recent letter from a Washington County prosecutor says Officer Will Blood fired six shots at Victor Torres-Elizondo on Oct. 25 after the man fired a revolver at an officer. Tests showed Torres-Elizondo had used methamphetamine before the shooting.

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) – A woman is returning to a Michigan court today for her sentence in the death of her 89-year-old Oregon mother after they were turned away from entering Canada. Mary Grenia died inside a truck last March and her body was left outside a thrift store near Port Huron. An autopsy revealed heart and lung disease but no sign of trauma. Kelly Rhodes is being sentenced for manslaughter.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Wesley Matthews had 25 points, including five of Portland’s 21 3-pointers, and the Trail Blazers routed the Charlotte Bobcats 134-104 last night. Damian Lillard finished with 24 points, including all six of his 3-point tries. The 21 3-pointers matches a franchise high, set in a 139-105 victory at the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 14.
