Local Sports – Pac Twelve & Prep Basketball

South Umpqua’s Erik Johnson scored 35 points; his final two as time expired in overtime to lift the Lancers to a 58-56 boys Far West League victory over the Siuslaw Vikings Friday night in Florence.  Three Vikings were in double figures…. Joseph Dotson had 16-points, Preston Mitchell 15, and JB Dodosn had 12.  In other Far West contests, number one ranked Brookings-Harbor edged Sutherlin 50-48; Marshfield routed Douglas 65-37.

 

In other boys basketball contests, North Bend ran away from Stayton 85-77 Saturday n a non-league game.  Rogue River blew away the Reedsport Braves 72-34.

 

For the girls, Siuslaw pulled away from South Umpqua early, leading  24-9 at the half, on the way to a 49-32 Far West League win at home.  Ashlee Cole had 23-points and 11-rebounds.  In other Far West League action, number one Sutherlin beat Brookings-Harbor 65-45;  Douglas edged Marshfield 48-46.  North Bend fell to Cascade Christian 46-17 on Saturday.

Reedsport ran over Rogue River 64-29.

Mapleton is on the court this evening, boys and girls, at home against SiletzValley.

 

Utah took an 80-69 victory over Oregon State Saturday afternoon. Roberto Nelson scored 16 points to lead the Beavers  and Hallice Cooke added 14 off the bench. Oregon State shot 50 percent from the field and 52.6 percent (10 of 19) from outside. But 15 Beaver turnovers led to 15 points for Utah.

 

Number 20 Colorado rallied in the second half of last night’s game to hand Number. 10 Oregon its first loss of the season yesterday, 100-91. Mike Moser had 24 points to lead Oregon, which was denied its first 14-0 start since 1937-38.
