COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Residents near Lighthouse Beach in Coos Bay woke up yesterday to find that six large sections of a broken dock had washed ashore overnight. The largest is about 15 feet long, and they include sections of wood, cement and plastic foam, which is littering the beach. It’s not tsunami debris from Japan. The World reports the debris is what remains of a dock that floated out to sea last week from a nearby harbor.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s flu season has arrived early, with at least seven deaths including a 5-year-old boy. Portland-area hospitals reported 179 flu-related flu patients admitted from the start of the season. Dr. Ann Thomas of the Oregon Public Health Division says 84 percent of those requiring hospitalization in the Portland area were younger than 65, and that’s unusual.
