PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A Pendleton woman who says she sprained a wrist, an ankle and fell unconscious after tripping on potholes and asphalt piles in a city parking lot wants the city to pay her $550,000. The East Oregonian reports that Lezlie Perkins says she was walking “carefully and prudently” when she fell in December 2011. The city denies that the parking lot was hazardous and alleged that Perkins was negligent.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Fire crews are fighting a smoky blaze at a trucking company in the small town of Turner, south of Salem. The Statesman Journal reports that the fire broke out late yesterday at Tree Line Transportation. A Turner Fire District official says no injuries have been reported.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Bend police lieutenant who served as public information officer has resigned after an investigation determined he had sex with three city employees and a journalist. The Bend Bulletin reports that investigative documents say some encounters occurred when Lt. Chris Carney was on duty and in uniform, and some occurred in a department restroom, his office, a storage area and a marked police vehicle.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County sheriff’s office says a Salem man who fled after crashing his car wound up in the chilly Pudding River before surrendering to deputies. The man fell head-first into the water yesterday while running from deputies, then refused to come out for nearly an hour. He finally surrendered when he got too cold. Deputies say DUI and other charges have been filed against Luis Daniel Hernandez.
