SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A plan to replace the Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River is only one of several issues that lawmakers will be reconsidering when a five-week legislative session begins Feb. 3. Gun control, clean fuels, Native American mascots and genetically modified crops are all issues that got a lot of attention last year and are likely to be aired once again.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Lane County District Attorney’s Office says it will not order the Eugene School District to disclose an investigative report on the job performance of a recent high school principal. The Register-Guard had requested the report under Oregon public records laws. The school district declined to comment on the ruling.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency won’t meet its mid-January target for releasing a report on possible environmental causes for several cancer cases in West Salem. An EPA spokesman told the Statesman-Journal last week that the report is close to being ready for launch. The report originally was scheduled for release in the fall.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A report by the Jackson County Animal Services shows pit bulls top the list of dog-bite cases involving humans in 2013. Countywide, there were 46 cases of pit bulls biting humans, or 17 percent of 266 reported cases. Labrador retrievers were the second highest with 31 cases. Mayor Gary Wheeler recently said a breed-specific ban was off the table, but other councilors wanted the police committee to discuss all options.
