EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene man is facing nearly 3 ½ years in prison after being sentenced in both state and federal court in two separate cases. The Register-Guard reports Scott Gorman was sentenced yesterday on state charges of assaulting a public safety officer. Last Friday, Gorman got a federal sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Klamath County commissioners are declaring a drought for the second year in a row. The Herald and News reports that the declaration is the first step toward setting up government aid for farmers and ranchers. Klamath Falls has had just over an inch of precipitation since Sept. 1, compared to an average of over 7 inches.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A proposal to give Oregon high school graduates free community college tuition could cost the state over $100 million a year. Gov. John Kitzhaber and several state lawmakers are studying the idea. Kitzhaber told lawmakers that the promise of a community college education could motivate young people to perform well in high school.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Obama administration says it’s creating seven regional hubs to help coordinate and distribute information about dealing with the effects of climate change. One will be in Oregon. Based at existing Agriculture Department facilities, the hubs aim to help farmers and rural communities fight climate change and adapt to weather changes.
