Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say motorists should avoid Interstate 84 just west of Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge. A landslide last night blocked both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane. State Police say one motorist crashed into several large boulders, but was not injured. Crews are working to clear the slide.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland school board has declared a state of emergency as the school district prepares for a possible strike by teachers. The Oregonian reports that the declaration allows the district to hire replacement teachers. Superintendent Carole Smith says both sides are working hard to reach a negotiated agreement.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Port of Portland commissioners have approved an incentive program to keep Hanjin Shipping from abandoning the city. The commissioners voted yesterday to pay Hanjin and other carriers $20 per container moved through Portland. Hanjin is responsible for more than 75 percent of the container volume at the port’s Terminal 6.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – PacifiCorp says it will repair a leak in Bend’s landmark Mirror Pond dam in April – in time for kayaking, canoeing and tubing this summer. The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports a wooden panel began leaking in October. The utility says power generation at the dam is no longer cost-effective and wants to transfer it to local government control.
