LOS ANGELES (AP) – Blake Griffin scored 36 points, Chris Paul had 20 points and 12 assists, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 122-117 last night in the final game for both teams before the All-Star break. The Clippers converted 16 Portland turnovers into 20 points during a back-and-forth game that included 40 lead changes.
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Justin Cobbs scored 22 points, 15 in the second half and seven in overtime, as California held off Washington State’s 3-point barrage, 80-76 last night. DaVonte Lacy scored a career-high 39 points, including eight 3-pointers, for Washington State (9-15, 2-10). D.J. Shelton added 18 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
SEATTLE (AP) – C.J. Wilcox overcame a poor shooting night to finish with 17 points, Desmond Simmons drew a crucial charge against Stanford’s Chasson Randle with 5.3 seconds remaining, and Washington held on for a 64-60 win over Stanford last night, snapping a three-game losing streak. Wilcox made just 4 of 14 shots, but played all 40 minutes as the Huskies (14-11, 6-6 Pac-12) won for the first time since Jan. 25.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Jesus Montero was visibly nervous yesterday as he apologized to his Seattle Mariners teammates and their fans. The catcher was joining the team at spring training for the first time since receiving a 50-game suspension after being connected to baseball’s Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug investigation.
