Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A compromise working its way through the Oregon Legislature could end a longstanding fight over renewable energy mandates, which was about to come to a head at the ballot box in November. Oregon requires large utilities to get 25 percent of their energy from new renewable sources by 2025. Smaller utilities must reach lower targets. The compromise would give more flexibility about how to meet the 25 percent target.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Weston is the latest small city in Oregon to consider contracting for police protection. The East Oregonian reports the struggle to pay for public safety is common in eastern Oregon’s small towns. In 1979, the small town of Echo decided to contract with the Umatilla County Sheriff’s office for police services.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The co-founder of Dave’s Killer Bread is back in Washington County Jail after pleading not guilty Friday to criminal charges from a police chase last November. The Oregonian reports 51-year-old Dave Dahl is being held on $520,000 bail. He had been charged including assault, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has rejected a conservation group’s attempt to block a Bend municipal water project, and city officials say they’re prepared to get the construction process started immediately. Central Oregon LandWatch filed an injunction in November after the U.S. Forest Service granted the city a permit. The group argued the project’s environmental impacts on native fish and wetlands weren’t given enough consideration.
