Here is the latest sports news for Oregon, Washington and Alaska from The Associated Press

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Robinson Cano drew a crowd for his first workout with the Seattle Mariners. The second baseman might as well get used to it. A couple hundred fans showed up at the Mariners’ spring training complex on Tuesday to watch the franchise’s new cornerstone do some stretching, some throwing and some fielding. Cano left the Yankees for a 10-year, $240 million deal, matching the fourth-largest in major league history.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Former NFL assistant coach John Garrett has been named offensive coordinator of the Oregon State Beavers. Garrett’s duties include the quarterbacks and tight ends, Oregon State announced Tuesday. Garrett, who once played for Beavers coach Mike Riley in the now-defunct World League, was wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. Before that, he was on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys under coach Jason Garrett, his brother.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey is swinging for the fences in its last-ditch effort to overturn a federal ban on sports betting in all but four states. The state is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking it to overturn a law limiting sports betting to states that legalized it before a 1991 deadline – Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana. New Jersey says the law is unconstitutional because it treats states differently.

PASCO, Wash. (AP) – Former professional football player Clint Didier says he’ll run for Congress. Didier, a former professional football player who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for the Senate in 2010, announced Monday that he’ll seek the 4th District seat being vacated by Rep. Doc Hastings.
