Prep Basketball

featureBrittany Long scored seven points in overtime and Elyssa Rose came off the bench to pull down four important rebounds and the Lady Vikings downed North Bend 48-40 to wrap up their season Friday night at home.  Sutherlin completed the season sweep of all their opponents with a 67-26 win over Douglas; Brookings beat South Umpqua 73-35.

The Reedsport Lady Braves extended their season despite a loss at the Special District 1 tourney in Medford.  They fell to  Lost River 44-35.  Reedsport will face Regis Friday.

For the boys, North Bend took charge early and cruised to a 64-46 win over the Siuslaw Vikings in Florence.  Preston Mitchell led Siuslaw with 17 points.  In other games, Sutherlin forced a tie at the top with Marshfield by downing Douglas 57-38; Brookings beat South Umpqua 68-46.

On the college court… 

Mike Moser had 21 points and a season-high five 3-pointers for Oregon in a 67-53 win against Washington State last night. Joseph Young had 18 points for the Ducks who have now won three straight.

In Corvallis, Washington snapped a seven-game losing streak on the road with an 86-62 victory over Oregon State Saturday. The victory also snapped a two-game overall losing streak for Washington, which was coming off a 78-71 loss at Oregon on Wednesday.

College Baseball

Oregon State dropped the first two games of the weekend at the Pac-12 – Big-10 Challenge in Surprise, Arizona.  The Beavers lost to Nebraska 9-2 Friday; then fell in a close one to Michigan State Saturday 8-7.  The Beavers came storming back yesterday to down Indiana 8-1. 

Right hander Jake Thompson, of Florence, will get the start this morning at ten when Oregon State faces Washington.

The Diamond Ducks remained undefeated with a three game sweep of Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles winning 12-2; 5-3; and 4-3.  Oregon will be on the diamond at home tomorrow against Portland.
