PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say they’ve arrested a 51-year-old man in the stabbing death of his roommate at their north Portland home. Sgt. Pete Simpson says Peter Conway John died at the scene yesterday. A short time later, officers arrested Stephen Kovacs for investigation of murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for a Gresham man who hasn’t been seen since he left Feb. 27 driving a U-Haul truck to Seattle. Police say 76-year-old Gary Gochnour may suffer from dementia. He was moving to live with his sister. He’s described as white, 5-foot-9, weighing 165 pounds with gray hair.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault in the 2012 death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son. The Oregonian reports that Brian Canady had been charged with murder in the death of Zachary Dutro-Boggess. The boy collapsed at the suburban Tigard homeless shelter where his family was living. The boy’s mother is also charged with murder and assault. Her case is pending.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Port of Portland says it’s not ready to be a petroleum terminal. It says there are too many questions about shipping crude oil by rail. But the port said yesterday it could be interested in oil if the transportation record improves. The port released a statement in response to inquiries about its interest in storing or transferring oil shipped to the Columbia Gorge.
