SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Former Oregon Republican Party Chairman Allen Alley says he won’t be running for governor or any other elected office this year. Alley confirmed in a telephone call yesterday. He says it’s not the right time for him to run for office. His decision not to run leaves state Rep. Dennis Richardson of Central Point as the front-runner for the Republican nomination.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A judge says a suspect accused of using a machete to fatally slash a Lake Oswego man is unfit to stand trial. The Oregonian reports a judge ruled that Erik Meiser should return to the Oregon State Hospital. A hospital psychiatrist concluded Meiser can’t cooperate with a lawyer and decide on a realistic legal course.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Junction City boy his bringing his fight against homelessness to the Oregon Capitol. Ten-year-old Keegan Keppner is fighting a brain tumor and has been trying to raise awareness about the plight of the homeless living in a Eugene campsite known as Whoville. The city council has moved to shut down the site. Keppner presented a hand-written letter to Gov. John Kitzhaber yesterday.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon wildlife biologist says a cougar was responsible for killing two goats and some chickens over three consecutive nights at a home near an 80-acre park in south Eugene. The Register-Guard reports that tracks found in two pastures near the home confirm a cougar was responsible. Wildlife officers set a trap in hopes of capturing the cougar.
