Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

CLEONE, Calif. (AP) – The suspect in a shootout that killed a Northern California sheriff’s deputy yesterday did not commit suicide as authorities had previously reported, but was killed by a police officer. Authorities say Ricardo Chaney was suspected of stealing a BMW in Eugene and locking the car’s original occupants in the trunk. The victims were able to escape. The Mendocino County sheriff said last night that Deputy Ricky Del Fiorentino died in the shootout.

DEPOE BAY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a speeding SUV plunged off a cliff on the Oregon coast, landing on rocks 250 feet below. The female driver was ejected and found dead at the crash site three miles south of Depoe Bay. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Adriana Star Ruiz of Lincoln City.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The black-and-white cat that clawed at a baby who pulled its tail and cornered a Portland family in a bedroom has touched off an Internet divide that worries cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy. The star of Animal Planet’s “My Cat from Hell” is headed to Portland to help the cat named Lux and the family, who had to be rescued from the room by police. Galaxy says cats don’t turn on their families for no reason. Lux’s story will be featured on Galaxy’s show this season.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Ya Ya Anderson scored 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Radford past Oregon State 96-92 in the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational in Corvallis last night. Radford will advance to play Old Dominion on Monday in the quarterfinals of the CBI. Eric Moreland had a career-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Beavers.
