PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Zoo officials in Portland say a 15-year-old female Amur tiger named Nicole has died after suffering apparent seizures. The Oregonian reports that zoo officials said a visitor reported the tiger was in trouble about noon yesterday. Zoo Director Kim Smith says vet staff saw Nicole’s seizures stop — and then she died. Smith said a necropsy found hemorrhaging and other irregularities in the tiger’s brain.

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. (AP) — Lane County sheriff’s officers say an 81-year-old man called 911 to report he had shot and wounded his son during a fight Friday night at their home in the Junction City area. Officials say 37-year-old Billy Raymond House died at a Springfield hospital yesterday. The Register-Guard reports that Billy Thomas House was interviewed by sheriff’s investigators. Lane County prosecutors will review the case to determine whether the shooting was a crime or a legally justified act of self-defense.

ELGIN, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State police say a loaded log truck missed a curve, plunged down an embankment and rolled onto its side in a northeast Oregon creek. The driver suffered only minor injuries in yesterday’s crash but was cited for failure to drive within a lane. The crash happened along Highway 204 about a mile west of Elgin.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Federal regulators have decided not to shrink Caspian tern habitat on East Sand Island near the mouth of the Columbia River in efforts to reduce the number of juvenile salmon and steelhead they feed on. The Corps of Engineers proposed the reduction in January. But the Corps recommended no action in the environmental review it released yesterday.
