PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 19-year-old former competitive cheerleader from Lake Oswego has been indicted on a federal charge of sex trafficking a 17-year-old girl who attended her old high school. The Oregonian reports that Julia Haner and 30-year-old Konrod Mason were arrested last weekend at a motel. KATU-TV reports Haner pleaded not guilty day. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A grand jury says a Portland police officer was justified in fatally shooting a man in a March 12 gun battle. The man was the prime suspect in the January kidnapping of a woman who escaped her attacker by jumping from a moving vehicle. Police say Officer John Romero shot and killed Kelly Swoboda near Wilson High School. The officer was hit in the hand in return fire from Swoboda.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Newly filed court documents say the first victim of a March 19 crime spree that later took the life of a California sheriff’s deputy was found seated at his Eugene dining room table with two gunshot wounds to the head. Three bullet holes were found in a bookcase in the home of 79-year-old George Wasson, a retired college professor. Later that day, authorities believe Ricardo Chaney fatally shot the deputy before being killed by another officer. Eugene police said Chaney and Wasson were acquainted.
