SEATTLE (AP) – The Weather Service forecasts one last day of near-record high temperatures in many parts of the Northwest before clouds roll in tomorrow, bringing a chance of weekend showers. Forecasters say today’s temperatures will be in the 80s again in Washington and Oregon where records were set in some cities yesterday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A 39-year-old Oregon man is accused of traveling to Kansas City to have sex with two underage girls in a rendezvous set up by an undercover officer. Federal prosecutors say Abdul Lamont Gamble of LaGrande was charged yesterday with traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sex with a minor. They say Gamble contacted the officer online and offered to pay to have sex with the woman’s fictitious 11-year-old and 15-year-old daughters.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say an inmate who served 272 days then escaped from a north Portland prison with less than a week to go has been recaptured. Police responding to a tip found 30-year-old Matthew Medlin late last night at a Jack in the Box in north Portland. While he was initially described as “noncompliant,” police say Medlin surrendered after numerous officers showed up, including a K-9 unit.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A woman who faced five trials in six days in Clackamas County Circuit Court had three remaining charges dismissed after her second conviction. Susan Lenor Funk was convicted last week of harassment for a shoving match with her father. She was convicted Tuesday of menacing neighbors. Three other cases were dropped.
