SEATTLE (AP) – The National Weather Service says May Day sunshine set heat records across western Oregon. Downtown Portland hit 90 degrees yesterday, breaking the old record for the day of 85 set in 1998. Astoria had a record high of 81 while Salem hit a record 88. In southern Oregon, Klamath Falls’ high of 83 broke a record of 77 set in 2004.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – It doesn’t look like Republican U.S. Senate candidates Monica Wehby and Jason Conger will have a televised debate before the May 20 primary. The Oregonian reports that Wehby rejected an offer to debate Conger on KGW-TV. The Republican nominee will face Democrat Jeff Merkley in the fall.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A man shot by a Salem police officer has died. Police say Michael Conley died Wednesday night at the Salem Hospital. Police said Conley came at Officer David Baker with a knife earlier that day and wouldn’t obey orders to drop it. The district attorney’s office says Baker’s shot hit Conley in the head.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Trail Blazers could advance to the second round in the NBA playoffs if they win Game 6 in Portland tonight. They lead the series 3-2 after the Houston Rockets rallied for a 108-98 victory on Wednesday night.
