HOUSTON (AP) – Robinson Cano and Willie Bloomquist each drove in two runs to help the Seattle Mariners break away in a four-run third inning and beat the Houston Astros 8-7 yesterday. Bloomquist broke a 1-all tie with a two-run double against Collin McHugh (2-1) and Cano followed with his first triple since June 3, 2012.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Cameron Maybin reached base after an overturned umpire’s call, then scored on Yonder Alonso’s slow grounder in the ninth inning as the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 to avoid a three-game sweep. Maybin easily beat the throw home by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who was playing in with one out. The Padres snapped a four-game losing streak and scored their most runs in five games.

ATLANTA (AP) – Brandon Crawford hit two home runs and the San Francisco Giants completed a three-game sweep, beating Atlanta 4-1 yesterday and handing the Braves their sixth straight loss. Madison Bumgarner pitched six sharp innings as the NL West-leading Giants won their fifth in a row.

MIAMI (AP) – Jeff Baker hit a game-winning double off the wall with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Miami Marlins beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 yesterday. Giancarlo Stanton homered twice and drove in three runs for Miami, giving him the NL leads with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs. Teammate Christian Yelich hit his second home run.
