HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Washington County sheriff’s police dog found a missing 8-year-old autistic boy in a creek. Deputy Daniel DiPietro and his K-9, Maverick, were called last night to look for the boy who was reported missing by his family in the Cedar Hills neighborhood. The Oregonian reports they searched a wooded area and found him cold and shivering in a rain-swollen creek.

MADRAS, Ore. (AP) – An inmate escaped from the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution near Madras. Law officers are looking for Clinton Swearingen. He was discovered missing late last night and was most likely wearing jeans and a T-shirt with the word “inmate” and Department of Corrections logo. He was in prison for theft and burglary convictions in Linn County.

MOUND CITY, Mo. (AP) – Environmental groups have raised concerns about a proposed wind farm in Missouri near a national wildlife refuge that attracts migratory birds. Element Power of Portland, Ore., wants to build Missouri’s largest wind farm near refuge. The Kansas City Star reports Element Power acknowledges that some birds would be killed but says most species at Squaw Creek fly too high to hit the turbines.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Nearly 60 percent of Oregon cities and about 70 percent of the state’s counties have adopted temporary bans on medical marijuana dispensaries. The Oregon Health Authority expects to continue receiving more notices under a new state law created a window for officials to pass moratoriums.
