PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Now that Dennis Richardson has secured the Republican nomination to face Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber in November, his next test will be raising enough money to introduce himself to voters before Kitzhaber beats him to it. National Republicans have been eager to tear Kitzhaber apart over the botched rollout of the state’s health insurance exchange, Cover Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley say they’ve introduced promised legislation based on an agreement last month over water in the Upper Klamath Basin. The agreement calls for sharing access to water and cooperating on restoring habitat for endangered fish. Whether such legislation has a chance in the Republican-controlled House is a question.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Iron Works and Vigor Industrial are forming a combined company that will employ about 2,300 workers in the Pacific Northwest. The Portland-based industrial firms announced that Oregon Iron Works will become a subsidiary of Vigor Industrial. The companies expect the merger to be finalized before July.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) – A Hood River County sheriff’s spokesman says a recovery team has successfully retrieved the body of a New Jersey man who fell to his death on Oregon’s Mount Hood. Sgt. Pete Hughes says recovering the body of 57-year-old Robert Cormier, a Catholic priest from Jersey City, took the 18-person team about 17 hours yesterday. Climbers had to pull the body from a crevasse it had slipped into, a task complicated by near-vertical terrain and falling rocks.
