PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Defense attorneys will argue today that a Portland man convicted of terrorism charges should be acquitted or granted a new trial. Mohamed Mohamud was convicted last year of attempting to detonate a bomb at Portland’s Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in 2010. The purported plot was actually an FBI sting and the bomb was a fake.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Trial is beginning today for a man accused of killing his mother and nephew two years ago in Lake Oswego. The Oregonian reports lawyers for Adrien Wallace will rely on an insanity defense. Wallace is accused of shooting his 71-year-old mother Saundra Wallace and 16-year-old Nicolas Juarez at the home where Adrien Wallace lived with his mother.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says a man found dead by mountain bikers on a trail near Bend apparently died of natural causes and not injuries. The man was found unresponsive Monday in the Phil’s Trailhead riding complex. The sheriff’s office identifies him as David Jay Minton of Bend.
SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) – Fire department medics treated two workers who breathed smoke at a fire last night at the Pride Recycling center in Sherwood. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue says heavy smoke was billowing from the building when they arrived.
