PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Seniors had finished classes and weren’t at Reynolds High School on Tuesday when freshman Emilio Hoffman was shot and killed at the school in Troutdale. The Oregonian reports classmates stood and cheered.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Acting on a citizen’s tip, Portland police say they have arrested a man sought in the death of his female tenant. Sgt. Pete Simpson said 61-year-old Gary Alan Lewis was arrested last night and booked for investigation of murder in the death of 59-year-old Renee Sandidge-Crowell. He’s expected to make a court appearance today.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A deaf prison inmate is suing the Oregon Department of Corrections for not providing him an interpreter. David VanValkenburg says the state is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act and he seeks $460,000 in damages for failures in communication during his 13 years in prison. A spokeswoman for the Oregon Department of Justice says it has a policy of not commenting on pending litigation.

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say an 85-year-old man from White City died after being trapped under his pickup. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy found Graham Wilkins underneath the Ford Ranger Wednesday night. The hood was open and a belt was partially off, leading investigators to conclude he was working on the vehicle when the mishap occurred.
