FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – The Lane County sheriff’s office says a small plane carrying two people has crashed off the Oregon coast near Florence, and at least one person has died. Sgt. Carrie Carver says the single-engine aircraft crashed just before 10 a.m. yesterday. She says the Coast Guard has recovered one body. Search crews were trying to locate a second person.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Hundreds of loved ones are remembering the 19-year-old student killed at a small Seattle college this month as a profound thinker who loved to dance. At a memorial service yesterday, Seattle Pacific University President Dan Martin read tributes from professors and students, who said Portland-area native Paul Lee was laid-back, complex and often seen dancing. Lee’s older brother, Albert, says the 19-year-old was genuine and compassionate.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon schools are required to conduct at least two drills on safety threats every year, but the state’s second-largest school district doesn’t track which of its schools has complied with the law. The Statesman Journal reports that it polled eight high schools in the Salem-Keizer School District. Some said they didn’t do the drills, which the state mandated in 2013. Others were unsure whether they did comply.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland man accused of striking his father-in-law in the head with a machete has been booked into Multnomah County Jail on assault charges. Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson says 39-year-old Bradley Wyatt surrendered early yesterday after an hours-long standoff with police. Police say the father-in-law suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
