PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has affirmed the legality of the U.S. government’s secret, warrantless bulk phone and email data collection in denying an Oregon man’s motion to dismiss his terrorism conviction. The judge upheld Mohamed Mohamud’s conviction on terrorism charges. Mohamud was convicted last year of attempting to detonate a bomb at Portland’s Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in 2010.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has ruled that the U.S. government violated the rights of 13 people on its no-fly list by depriving them of their constitutional right to travel, and gave them no adequate way to challenge their placement on the list. It’s the nation’s first ruling to label the no-fly list redress procedures unconstitutional.

SEATTLE (AP) – Joe Vaughn of Skyris Imaging in Portland says he owns the unmanned aerial device that alarmed a Seattle woman concerned about a “peeping drone.” KING-TV reports that Vaughn says he was hired by a developer in Seattle to snap a few photos of various points of interest. He says his company only flies over properties where they have permission.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say one orange tabby wanted to be closely involved when officers responding to a burglary report searched the cat’s home in southeast Portland. When police entered the home to search for a suspect, an officer picked up the resident cat to make sure it didn’t step in the broken glass on the floors. The cat happily climbed onto Kerwin’s shoulders and stayed there as police finished searching the house.
