ENTERPRISE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is opening the lower Grand Ronde River to spring Chinook anglers this weekend. The department says the fishing from Friday through Monday will test the feasibility of a spring fishery of hatchery Chinook in the lower Grande Ronde River. It’s the first time in almost 40 years that anglers will have a chance to fish for spring chinook on the river near Enterprise

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The first full year of data for Gov. John Kitzhaber’s heath care overhaul shows a reduction in emergency room visits and certain hospitalizations. The report says ER visits for Medicaid patients fell by 17 percent in 2013 from two years earlier, and hospitalizations for heart and lung problems were down.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Federal wage-and-hour regulators want a higher court to hear their case for using the threat of letting perishable crops rot as a means of getting Oregon blueberry farmers to settle a case. Earlier this year, a federal judge threw out agreements between the U.S. Labor Department and two Oregon berry operations that alleged they signed under duress to prevent losing millions. The agriculture publication Capital Press reports the Labor Department wants the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to review the ruling.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A police officer shot during a traffic stop in Rainier is reported in fair condition at a Portland hospital. Authorities say Officer Russell George was shot Monday by a motorist he stopped on U.S. Highway 30. The suspect was found dead hours later near Clatskanie, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He has not been identified.
