SEATTLE (AP) – Kyle Seager had an RBI double in the first inning and hit a three-run homer in the fifth off Boston starter Jake Peavy as the Seattle Mariners won their fifth straight, 8-2 over the Red Sox last night. Despite a shaky performance from starter Erasmo Ramirez, the Mariners matched their longest winning streak of the season thanks to another offensive outburst.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – Lamar Neagle scored the clinching penalty in the shootout as the Seattle Sounders beat the San Jose Earthquakes in the fifth round of the U.S. Open Cup last night. Seattle won the penalty shootout 4-1 after the teams played to a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of extra time.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike each had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Seattle Storm 65-57 yesterday. Parker equaled a season-high with seven assists and Armintie Herrington scored eight points for the Sparks (5-8), who held the Storm (6-10) to a season low in points, including just 10 in the fourth quarter. Temeka Johnson led Seattle with 11 points.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks will be bringing some precious cargo to Alaska next month. KTVA reports some members of the defending Super Bowl champions will include two stops in Alaska during this summer’s 12 Tour. And they are bringing the Lombardi Trophy from the Super Bowl win with them. The Seahawks will head to Anchorage where team members will take part in the Special Olympics Alaska/BOMA Golf Tournament at the Anchorage Golf Course.
