SEATTLE (AP) – Hisashi Iwakuma struck out a season-high 10 in seven strong innings, Mike Zunino and Michael Saunders hit solo home runs, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 last night. Iwakuma (7-4) has not allowed an earned run to the Twins in five career starts, which spans 33 2-3 innings. After allowing a combined 10 runs in two consecutive starts to close out June, Iwakuma has given up just one in his two outings in July.

UNDATED (AP) – The Seattle Mariners designated backup catcher John Buck for assignment following last night’s game against the Minnesota Twins. The Mariners will make a corresponding move today. Buck, 34, signed a one-year contract with Seattle in the offseason.

NEW YORK (AP) – Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager has been selected to replace injured Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion on the American League’s roster for next week’s All-Star game. The 26-year-old Seager, a first-time All-Star, entered yesterday with a .274 average, 13 homers, 59 RBIs and 21 doubles. The All-Star game is scheduled for July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – DeAndre Yedlin has rejoined the Seattle Sounders amid reports that a move to Europe is on the horizon following his impressive performance for the United States in the World Cup. Yedlin took part in training yesterday and is expected to be available for both of Seattle’s matches this week against rival Portland – first in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday and then in MLS play Sunday.
