DENVER (AP) – Deputy VA Secretary Sloan Gibson says the agency’s scheduling problems and personnel investigations can be cleared up in two years. Gibson made the prediction yesterday while visiting the Denver veterans hospital. He will be leaving Colorado to tour facilities in Seattle and Portland, Oregon.

MADRAS, Ore. (AP) – The treasurer of Jefferson County faces arraignment tomorrow on charges of theft, forgery and official misconduct. The charges were brought against Deena Goss after a resident complained that a $26 check for a dog license was altered and cashed for $46. A county investigation found other suspicious transactions. Goss’ attorney said she maintains she’s innocent.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon will receive $1.2 million as part of a $35 million settlement with a pharmaceutical giant over the marketing of one of its drugs. Forty-two states are involved in the settlement with Pfizer Inc. to resolve allegations that Wyeth misrepresented the uses and benefits of the drug Rapamune. The money will go into the state’s consumer protection and education account.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The owners of four Oregon home-based day care centers will have to give up their medical marijuana cards or lose their licenses to care for children. A state board voted unanimously to revoke permission given to a handful of day care owners, who were allowed to use the drug under certain restrictions. Advocates of the medicinal pot program objected to Wednesday’s move, saying child care providers aren’t prohibited from using medications, including narcotics.
